It's official.
I've reached a certain juncture in my designing of my next collection. The question at hand is..
To do a full menswear collection or not.
I've thought a half womens and half mens would be the safe choice. Most people at my school tend to do all womenswear or half/half.
I do not recall ever hearing of an all men's collection being done.
I just can't find any inspiration for what I would want to dress a woman in right now. All I can think about is the lack of design when it comes to current menswear. I do give props to some of the designers I've come to regard with the utmost respect when it comes to recent menswear. I also love how the Japanese have such an amazing menswear aesthetic.
The inspiration for wanting to do menswear also comes from myself. I want more options when it comes to clothes and I think men who are in the same boat deserve more options. I have so many ideas on how I want to change silhouettes, necklines, etc.
I'm very passionate about the future of men's clothing.
Don't get me wrong - I love womenswear as well.
Lanvin is becoming one of my utmost favorites when it comes to womenswear (And mens!).
I just feel bad about the female models I use and telling them, "Sorry, not this year." They love modeling just as much as I love designing. I would have one last year to design after this upcoming year and I think it would be then that I would do a half/half show.
A full 7 male model showing would be groundbreaking (As sad as that sounds).
Inspiration is coming to me mostly from this abstract music video by Royksopp.
Oh well, time to start sketching out what I want; it would be the best decision honestly.
