I had various other inspirations:
I wanted to combine 1920's fashion with today's lady, use interesting proportions, use inspiration from my favorite designer Vionnet, and add in a nice "Witchy" vibe. I was originally going to use more natural earth tones, but I decided against it. I didn't want it to be cliche with the typical browns, greens, etc.
I decided to go for a sophisticated palette of black, ivory, red, and gold. I did a lot of hand stitching things from beads, pearls, and lots of red petals. Fabrics used in my collection ranged from cotton interlock knit, crepe backed satin, and polyester. After the show I had about 20 million offers on my dresses but I promised my models that after a photoshoot to document them for my portfolio they could have them.
Witchy(Ladylike + Art) = My Collection.
I also did the hair for my collection. It definitely pays off having gone to Cosmetology School and having my license. I did some cuts and color a few days before the show too. I wanted make-up to consist of a fresh face, shiny lip, and then to save all the drama for the eyes which are my favorite part of the face. My model's friend assisted with make-up because that is the one thing I never really focused on in Cosmetology School.

And on the day of the show I wore the colors of my collection which included sewing a little petal brooch to my vest in support. I love my girls and I love my collection.

I'm pretty happy with the way it all turned out. I feel that having my first model come down the runway with her hood on was a great move. I had people tell me it definitely gave my show a great vibe.
Next year's show? COLOR.
haha.

your collection is beautiful. i think i have a class with one of those girls. they are lucky they get to keep the dresses. i do think its kind of strange though that what goes down the runway isn't actually what most people wear. there are a lot of skirts and dresses on the runway but most women wear pants. i'll probably learn about that later, i'm only just starting the major.
ReplyDeleteWhy thank you! After I have a photo shoot with the girls to document the clothes they can have them. I'll have no use for them after that.
ReplyDeleteRegular women wear pants, fashion people wear everything. ;)
You just joined the major?
